A Burst of Affiliate Networks? Godaddy Non-Domain Services Getting in the Way
Nov 20

“Pets” Is a fun interactive feature on Tagged.com; if you can get past the problem of placing a value on people based on appearance.  Similar to “Owned” on MyYearbook.com, users (Pets) are bought and sold with ever increasing value and the profits are split between the seller and their “Pet.” Maybe I’ve just had too much spare time this past week; Seems I’ve developed a Pets “Business Plan.”   I’ll share my strategy so far for this game…just started messing with it recently.  Chances are if you have your own “Pet Store” you are aware of these ideas, but maybe you also have some I’ve missed?

  Browse for pets

I browse for pets and use the filters in different ways, usually keeping the price under a thousand.  Then I either narrow it more by selecting a country and an age range, or just choose one age.  I’ve found that if you search through a very wide range, then the early pages you see are pretty picked over. This can be frustrating if you know you have to hit “next” 20 times before you get to the pages others haven’t persisted to see yet… then sometimes browse “becomes unavailable” and you have to start all over again!  So by filtering things down, within a couple pages you start to see overlooked pets more quickly.

 Use Browser Tabs

A crucial tool for all my techniques is using tabbed a browser.  I use Firefox, but Tabbed browsing is available in Explorer and other browsers as well.  This means when I click a Pets link from “Browse” I hold down control, click and they open in another tabbed window. I just continue the selection process opening 20-40 tabbed windows without leaving the browse pages.  This makes it go faster for a couple reasons. Mainly If you leave “Browse” then return you are at page one again and start all over resetting the filters, updating and hitting next over and over.  So, after you have a lot of tabs waiting for purchase, you go down the line click the tab, clicking buy, then verifying…and you don’t need to wait for the page to reload after the buy; just click the next tab and buy buy buy buy…then go back over the tabs closing them one by one. This step also provides a second level of judging and I sometimes reject selections as I go.

  Wish List

Sometimes I havemore pets selected in tabs than I have money for (or I hit the 200 pet limit).  I add those left over to “Wish List” and close the tabs.  Then later I have a stash of pets in the price point I want, ready to add…just control click down the wish list, delete from the list, then buy buy buy buy buy. Also as I buy pets I keep a lookout for owners that have a lot of petsand control click them so I can have a look at their pets later.  If they look like a good buyer, I add them to my wish list.  Just a holding place for owners I want to revisit and cherry pick.  I notice a lot of the owners with more than a hundred pets, or those are very selective have a high number of “wishers”  I believe this doesn’t mean people want to buy them, but they are using the wish list as a sort of bookmark for sellers they like to visit.

Rebuy sold pets that are still a “bargain”

Yeah…this means objectifying people with a price…not sure what kind of karma this creates, but this is the game.  So I look at my activity and control/click any pets that sold for under a thousand

Marketing

I haven’t done much of this.  But many send out messages alerting past buyers that you have a nice fresh inventory.
Without a doubt, there are better things for me to do with my time!  Occasionally someone will take offense that you “bought” their girlfriend or they may not know about the “Pets” system on tagged and wonder who the hell you are buying them!?  That’s understandable, and I as politely as possible explain and point out how they can opt out of pets.  I don’t remember opting into “pets.”  If Tagged doesn’t have this set up as “opt in” then this would be a good change.

  1. petshop Says:

Things have changed a little for pets lately. It used to be if a pets profile was deleted, you would lose all that money. That area of risk is now gone. Making it easier to pile up the dough.

Seems there was a flush of fake profiles when this change first hit. Combine this with the $1000 bonus for being a pet’s first owner (cost $500) and you can see where that leads. Bot makes profiles, bot buys those pets, bot deletes them, repeat. But that’s probably cooled off. Quicker money is made with a group of fake profiles buying each other.

All that is at risk of being deleted for not playing fair.
